"We're Here for You"

Career Development is dedicated to providing individual assistance and professional programs to guide students in making important decisions about their future and their success.

Our career consultants will work with students at all stages of their careerl development to help them with a variety of needs. Whether they are in the process of choosing a major, changing a major, choosing a career, writing a résumé, exploring internship opportunities, or preparing for an interview, we're here to help.

Our Web site is intended to provide an overview of our services and serve as a road map as students navigate their college experience.

Students can make an appointment with a career consultant, find us at one of our many on-campus events, or join us 24/7 with our interactive online resources.

Our Services

Career Development provides individual assistance and professional development programs to guide students in making important decisions. We offer one-on-one guidance, as well as on-site and Web interactive resources. We strive to provide students with the most personal and effective customer service. We help students by providing assistance with the following:

Choosing a Major
Career Consultants are available to guide students through the process of choosing a major. They can assist in examining interests, values, abilities, and personality type so that students can make an informed decision about their future.

Building Relationships through Networking
Experts agree the 60–75 percent of jobs lie in the hidden job market. Students can penetrate the hidden job market by networking with alumni in the Pitt Career Network and at the Pathway to Professions networking event. Networking will mean more job leads and opportunities on graduation day.

Creating a Résumé and writing Cover Letters
We know the best techniques to help students present their skills and experiences. Our staff can help students market skills and experiences effectively. Students should take a moment to register for FutureLinks to review employment opportunities and create a current employment profile.

Practicing Interviewing
On an interview, the first impression students make may be the deciding factor for an employer. Our staff can prepare students for the entire interview process by conducting videotaped mock interviews or coaching them through an interview to sharpen their skills.

Researching Internships or Job Opportunities
We specialize in helping students research companies and work settings so that they can make the best decisions, according to their career goals.

Exploring and Preparing for Graduate or Professional School
If graduate school seems like the right thing for a student, Career Development will help students research programs and guide them through the application process.
