Pitt Career Network

What is the Pitt Career Network?

The Pitt Career Network is an online directory of Pitt alumni volunteers that provides details about their careers and professional experiences. This is a resource for students and alumni seeking career-related information, insight and advice. The Pitt Career Network is a partnership between Career Services and the Pitt Alumni Association.

Why is networking important?

Career networking is the #1 way to gain valuable insights into careers. Did you know that at least 2/3 of the jobs available in the job market are in small companies who normally do not advertise openings or recruit on college campuses? This means that 60-75% of jobs lie in the hidden job market. You can penetrate the hidden job market by networking with alumni in the Pitt Career Network. More than 1000 Pitt alumni have volunteered their professional profiles for you to search. Once you find alumni to contact, you can create your own opportunities by arranging informational interviews, obtaining referrals or even job shadowing.

Networking helps to expand your knowledge of the job market and to clarify what jobs are really like before you commit. The Pitt Career Network already has alumni waiting to hear from you, anxious to help you in your career search.

How do I start?

Your Pitt username and password are all you need to access this account while you are a registered student. Go to the Pitt Career Network site, login, and begin searching the profiles. Do not wait until your senior year or until you decide that you hate your current career to begin networking. Networking is an investment in your future. Start today!

What is networking?

Networking is:

  • talking with a person in a job, profession or organization of interest to you.
  • an opportunity to ask for information, not a job.
  • a job searching tool that is planned and organized.

Networking is not:

  • talking with someone about specific job leads or job openings (at least not at first).
  • a chance meeting.
  • a job interview.
